Nu'aiman's funny story with the Prophet

An-Nuayman bin Amr or Nu'aiman was one of the companions of the Prophet who was a resident of Medina from among the Ansar. At the time of the Battle of Badr, he participated in jihad with the Prophet S.A.W. Among his friends, Nu'aiman was famous as a friend who liked to joke. Nu'aiman was a friend of the prophet who was poor and drunk. Because of his drunken habit, Nu'aiman was reprimanded and scolded by the companions of the Prophet Muhammad. Even so, Prophet Muhammad SAW still defended Nu'aiman and said to his companions who scolded him, "Never again, all of you blaspheme and curse Nu'aiman. Even though he is like this, he always makes me smile, he still loves Allah and I ."

In addition, behind his drunken figure, Nua'aiman always acts silly and mischievous to the point of making the Prophet Muhammad and his companions burst into laughter. As long as the jokes and ignorance do not violate the teachings of Islam, maybe as long as that will be understandable.
Rasulullah SAW said in his hadith,
"Nu'aiman will enter heaven laughing, because he likes to make me laugh."

Nu'aiman sold his best friend as a slave

It is said that one time Nu'aiman was invited by Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq to join the trade in the land of Sham. Before leaving, Sayyidina Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq came to the Messenger of Allah to ask permission to invite two friends to join him in trading. Two of those friends are Nu'aiman.

"O Messenger of Allah ..., I ask permission to bring two friends to join the trade to the land of Sham, namely Nu'aiman and Suwaibith bin Harmalah," pleaded Abu Bakr, which then allowed the three of them to travel.

Arriving in the land of Sham, the two of them were assigned their respective tasks by Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq, Suwaibith bin Harmalah was assigned to guard the supplies, because he was known as a very trustworthy person. Sayyidina Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq himself went to do business.

While Suwaibith was guarding the food, Nu'aiman came at noon and said that he was hungry.

"O Suwaibith, I am already hungry, so give me a piece of bread for me to eat now," said Nu'aiman.

However, Nu'aiman's request was ignored by Suwaibith, because he was so strong in maintaining the trust that he chose to wait for Sayyidina Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq to come. Seeing the behavior of Suwaibith who was so adamant in defending the mandate, Nu'aiman threatened him,

"Give me that piece of bread or I'll teach you a lesson."

However, he ignored the threat, Suwaibith persisted in maintaining the mandate of Sayyidina Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq and did not give the piece of bread to Nu'aiman.

Nu'aiman rushed to the market, then tried to find a place that sold slaves there.

When Nu'aiman managed to find the seller in question, he immediately asked one by one of the slaves which turned out to be ranging from 100 to 300 dirhams. Then, he told the slave seller, "I also have a slave, but I only sell 20 dirhams, it's cheap," he said.

Hearing Nu'aiman's statement, the seller didn't believe it because the price was very cheap. Furthermore, Nu'aiman explained that his slave is cheap because he has a disgrace (disability/minus) in which he does not claim to be a slave and always refers to himself as an independent person. Until finally everyone gathered to buy the slave that Nu'aiman meant.

Unexpectedly, it turned out that Nu'aiman actually directed them to Suwaibith, who was none other than his own best friend. Nu'aiman also received 20 dirhams of money, followed by the arrest of Suwaibith as a slave as intended by Nu'aiman.

When arrested, Suwaibith shouted, “I am not a slave. I am a free man!”

However, the shout was responded to by a group of people who caught him, "We already know your shortcomings."

Those who caught Suwaibith continued to ignore his shouts while taking Suwaibith and selling him to the market. After that, Nu'aiman became a person who held a lot of money. He used it to buy food, drinks, and gifts for the Prophet Muhammad.
Not long after, Sayyidina Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq came home and was confused because he could not find Suwaibith anywhere. With ease and honesty, Nu'aiman said, "I have sold it, O Abu Bakr."
Knowing this, Sayyidina Abu Bakr Ash-Siddiq laughed and asked what really happened. Nu'aiman also told everything in detail to the point where Suwaibith who incidentally was his own friend he finally sold. Until finally Sayyidina Abu Bakar Ash-Siddiq immediately rushed to the market and bought Suwaibith back, until he was free again as an independent person.

After they returned to Medina, this story was told to the Prophet Muhammad. So, when the story of Nu'aiman was told, the Prophet Muhammad saw. laughed so hard that his molars were clearly visible in front of his companions. Until a year has passed from the story, the Messenger of Allah. always retell the story of Nu'aiman to any guests who come to him.

Nu'aiman Honey Gift for Rasulullah SAW

One time, Nu'aiman wanted to give a gift to the Prophet with a jug of honey. Then Nu'aiman came to the honey seller and asked him to deliver the honey to the Messenger of Allah.

"Later you ask for the money for the honey," said Nu'aiman to the honey seller.

How happy the honey seller is because his wares have sold. He finally obeyed what Nu'aiman said. Then he came to the Messenger of Allah with a jug of honey, a gift from Nu'aiman. At that time, the Prophet was very happy because he got a gift of honey from Nu'aiman's friend.

But the joy of the Prophet SAW immediately turned into a 'surprise' when the honey seller also handed over the bill. "This is the honey of the Prophet. That's the price," said the honey seller.

Rasulullah SAW immediately realized that was how Nu'aiman did. Give a gift, but instead he has to pay for it. Inevitably, he finally gave some money to the honey seller. So the Messenger of Allah got a gift of honey, as well as the price bill.

Some time after the incident, the Prophet called Nu'aiman. He asked his friend why he did that.
"I want to do good to you, O Messenger of Allah, but I have nothing," replied Nu'aiman.
Rasulullah then smiled after hearing his friend's answer.

Nu'aiman Slaughter the Camel of the Messenger of Allah

One day, the companions of the prophet said to Nu'aiman that it had been a long time since he had eaten camel meat. They then had the idea to slaughter the camel of someone who was visiting the Messenger of Allah. Nu'aiman immediately welcomed the idea. The Prophet's guest camel was eventually slaughtered by Nu'aiman.

The Prophet's guest who knew his camel was slaughtered immediately complained to the Prophet. After being asked, the friends who had the idea of eating camel meat answered that it was Nu'aiman who did it.

One of them then showed the Prophet and his guest Nu'aiman's hiding place.

When asked why the Prophet did that, Nu'aiman's answer actually made the Prophet smile.

"Just ask the person who showed you my hiding place," replied Nu'aiman.

The Prophet then gave compensation to the owner of the camel with an amount that was more than sufficient.

Nu'aiman Treating Rasulullah SAW

Once upon a time, one night before dawn Nu'aiman was very drunk and could not go home. Right in front of the mosque he lay down to get rid of his drunkenness a little. When he woke up it was noon, then Nu'aiman felt his stomach was very, very hungry.

Incidentally when he looked, he saw a food seller passing by in front of the mosque where he was leaning, and without thinking Nu'aiman immediately intercepted the food seller. Unintentionally the corner of his eye saw the Prophet was in the mosque.

Nuaiman then ordered two meals and then looked for the Prophet in the mosque and invited him to eat. Both of them ate until they were finished. When the food was finished the Prophet then stood up to enter the mosque. However, Nuaiman intercepted it while saying.

"Where are you going, O Messenger? It seems that there is no burden, after eating, why is it nice to leave it, don't you want to pay it?" said Nu'aiman lightly.

The Messenger of Allah replied, "Is it not you who ordered and offered me food?".

"Yes... that's true, Apostle, but everywhere a king or leader doesn't serve, protect, and treat his subordinates. Shall I pay for a Prophet of Allah?" said Nuaiman.

Seeing the behavior of Nuaiman Rasulullah then smiled and felt amused in his heart.
