The Law of the Apostles' Tradition, Congratulations on Descending the Rice Fields

Selametan is the reading of a congratulatory prayer, which is read and agreed upon together. In the use of the Indonesian word, something ending in -an means that it was made or used. For example, Sholavat, when it is read, becomes the action of Sholavat, when it is put on, it becomes a glove and the like. So is salvation.

On Wikipedia, selametane is interpreted as a ritual tradition held by the Javanese. Not only from Java, but also Sundanese and Madurese. Selametan is a form of thanksgiving when relatives or neighbors are invited. Traditionally, Thanksgiving begins with a joint prayer, when they sit cross-legged on a mat and swirl tampeng rice with side dishes.

There are many rescue models in Indonesia, including Rasolan or Rasulan. In a dissertation research conducted by Samiun, a student of Da'wa and Communication Sciences at the State Islamic University Raden Intan (Uin) Raden Intan Lampung, titled "The Rasulan Tradition in the Analysis of the Islamic Call in Krawangsari Village". , Natar District, South Lampung, explained that the Tradition of the Apostles is a tradition followed by the Javanese community after the harvest. This tradition is a form of gratitude to Allah SWT for the sustenance given by Him. This tradition is a form of Javanese culture. Javanese culture is the culture of the Javanese tribal community. The Muslim-majority Javanese community is currently still tinged with kejaven elements, but these ritual activities do not deviate from Islamic law and have been adapted to Islamic teachings.

In Bantul, Yogyakarta, this apostolic tradition is known as Wivitan. About this, as reported by Republika under the headline “In the picture: Vivitan tradition of thanksgiving before rice harvest”, the village of Srandakan claims that the Vivitan tradition is a thanksgiving ritual before rice harvest. In addition to praying together in the rice fields, there was also the first rice harvest. Then it all ends with a meal with wivit rice, namely tampeng rice brought during the vivit tradition.

In addition to the above two terms, there are other terms for the Salametan descending paddy fields, namely Kavit and Vivit. An Indonesian Language and Literature student from FKIP wrote his study titled "The Religious Values of Kawit and Wiwit Ritual in Nganjuk Regency" which states that Kawit and Wiwit is a ritual ceremony performed by the agricultural community before and after planting, especially rice planting. , in order to ensure an even sowing of rice and as a token of gratitude to farmers for the rice harvest.

The customs of Rasolan do not contradict religious teachings

The three names, namely Rasulan/Rasolan, Vivitan, Kavit and Vivit, are rituals of reciting prayers together to start going down into the fields to plant or harvest rice. If you look for references to this ritual in the Qur'an and the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, then, of course, there is no proper literature in which the words Rasolan, Vivitan, Kavit and Vivit would be mentioned. However, there are many explanations that the Prophet Muhammad SAW urged his companions to plant crop seeds, of course, in accordance with the conditions of Mecca and Medina, which became the subject of dates. The prayer that is said at the time of salvation hopes to Allah SWT that the rice to be planted will be saved from plant pests before harvest and contains blessings and benefits for human and other beings to consume.

In addition, the events of Selamatan Rasulan, Wiwitan, Kawit and Wiwit contain many religious values. Along with these many positive values, it is important for the Indonesian Muslim community to preserve prophetic salvation. Rasolan's rescue contains the following values:
  1. There is a value of shadako in this tradition because in this tradition, people who follow the tradition of the apostles distribute food to relatives or the local community.
  2. There is value in friendship because in this tradition it can be used as a gathering place that brings benefits. And also can increase intimacy between someone
  3. Teach someone to always be grateful to Allah.
  4. Learn to always ask and pray to God.
  5. Then there is the value of sincerity, because people conducting this tradition must be accompanied by sincerity in themselves, so that what is given out in this tradition becomes good, blessing and good.
It is said that the Prophet Muhammad once helped one of his companions, Salman al-Farisi, plant 300 date palm seeds as the price he had to pay for his independence. At first Salman was a slave. Having converted to Islam, the Prophet Muhammad asked Salman to negotiate with his employer for release. The employer will grant independence when Salman plants 300 date palms - not a single stalk dies off - and.

Meaning: “O God, bless us with our fruits. Bless us in our city. bless us on our trunks. bless us with our takar (mud) implements.”

In another narration, the Prophet SAW asked for blessings on the harvest. Rasulullah recited such a prayer.

Meaning: "May Allah increase the multiplied blessings."

In addition, Rasulullah SAW prayed that Allah SWT would take care of the fields that began to bear fruit until the end of the harvest period from all violations that led to crop failure. This is a prayer

Meaning: "O Allah, show us the final results of our cultivation, as You showed us the initial results."

Rasulullah SAV read this prayer so that one of the inhabitants who came to him, who owned the fields, would not experience a crop failure. Then the Messenger of Allah called a small child who was nearby. Then he gave the child the fruits of the first harvest that the farmer had brought.

Dua when planting plants

When planting rice, corn or other cereals, as well as when planting some trees such as papaya and others, besides reciting basmala, it is recommended to read prayers. Among the prayers that are recommended to be read when planting seeds or trees, the following can be distinguished;

Meaning: The Most Holy Essence, which is the most growing and the most inherited. The parable of a good judgment is like a good tree whose roots are strong and whose branches (lift up) to the sky, the tree bears fruit at any time of the year with the permission of its Lord.

He said that this prayer is based on a hadeeth narrated by al-Daylami from Jabir;

Meaning: Whoever plants on Wednesday, then he says 'Subhaanal baa-'itsil waaritsi', then he will bring a lot of food to him.

Also based on what is mentioned in the following Al-Kafi book;

Meaning: It should be when you plant or sow plants say; Wa mistslu kalimatin thoyyibatin kasyajarotin thoyyibatin ashluhaa tsaabitun wa far’uhaa fis samaa-i tu’tii ukulahaa kulla hiinin bi idzni robbihaa.

Pray For Plants To Be Safe From Pests

In the book Al-Tafsir Al-Munir, Shaykh Wahbah Al-Zuhaili quotes a prayer and blessings that are recommended to be read when we cultivate, both in the form of grains such as rice, corn and others, as well as in the form of trees. It is mentioned that reciting these prayers and blessings when planting can prevent the plants from various pests and diseases, both caterpillars, locusts and others. This is a prayer reading for plants to be safe from pests;

Meaning: I seek refuge in God from the temptations of the accursed devil. By mentioning the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. So tell me about what you planted? Are you the ones who grow it or are We the ones who grow it? No, it is God who plants, who cultivates and who multiplies. O Allah, have mercy on Prophet Muhammad, and give us sustenance of the fruit of this plant, keep us away from its danger, make us among those who are grateful for Your favors, those who remember Your majesty, and bless us in this plant, O Lord of the universe.

In the book Al-Tafsir Al-Munir, Shaykh Wahbah Al-Zuhaili said as follows;

Meaning: It is advisable for people who sow grain on the ground after reading ta'awwudz to read; Afaroaitum maa tahrutsun, aantum tazro'uunahu am nahnuz zaari'unn. Balillaahuz zaari'u wal munbitu wal mublighu. Allahumma sholli 'alaa muhammadin, warzuqnaa tsamrohuu woknibnaa dhororohuu, waj'alnaa li an'amika minasy syaakiriin, wa li aalaa-ika minadz dzaakiriin, wa baarik lanaa fiihi yaa robbal 'aalamiin. It is said that this speech can save plants from all diseases, from caterpillars, grasshoppers and others.
